Getafe Football Club was founded in 1976 under the name of the Madrid Getafe Association. Four years later, the club was renamed as the Hertafe Sports Association. In 1982, the club was renamed as Hertafe Belief Club, and a year later it was renamed again as "Hertafe Football Club".
